GSC Hidden Query Gap Calculator

See exactly how much of your traffic Search Console counts but never shows you by name.

What this measures

Search Console's Performance report shows two different things: the big totals at the top of the page, and the row-by-row breakdown by query. Those two numbers almost never match, Google withholds low-volume "anonymized" queries from the row-level export while still counting them in the total. This tool shows you exactly how big that gap is for your own site. If you've used our GSC Week-over-Week Comparison Tool, this is the companion check for a single period rather than two.

1. Type in your totals

In Search Console: Performance report → pick your date range. Don't export anything yet, just read the two big numbers shown on-screen above the chart and type them in exactly as displayed.

The "Total clicks" figure shown above the performance chart. Commas are fine, paste it exactly as shown.

The "Total impressions" figure shown above the performance chart. Commas are fine, paste it exactly as shown.

2. Paste your Queries export

Now export the same date range: ExportDownload CSV from the Queries tab. Paste that CSV below, or upload the file directly. Use the exact same date range you just read the totals from, otherwise the two numbers won't be comparable.

Waiting for data.

This is normal, expected Search Console behavior, not a bug in this tool or a problem with your account. Google has confirmed it withholds a portion of low-volume, potentially personally-identifiable search queries from the row-level breakdown to protect searcher privacy, while still counting them in the aggregate totals. Independent research (widely cited analysis from Ahrefs' Patrick Stox and others) has repeatedly found this gap commonly runs 30-50% of clicks for many sites, with recent estimates landing around 46-47% as of 2026. If your number lands in that range, that's typical, not a sign anything is wrong.
Why can't I just export a "totals" CSV instead of typing the numbers in?

Search Console doesn't offer one. The Performance report's on-screen totals (Total clicks, Total impressions, average CTR, average position) are calculated across every query, including the anonymized ones, but there's no export option that gives you that pre-summed number as a file. The per-query and per-page exports are the only downloadable data, and by definition they only include what's broken out by name. Typing in the two on-screen numbers is the only way to capture the true total.

My typed total is smaller than the sum of my export. What happened?

That almost always means the date ranges don't match exactly, re-check that the range you read the totals from is the identical range you exported. Search Console's totals shouldn't ever be smaller than the sum of a same-range export; if they are, something about the range or filters differs between the two.

Does this same gap apply to Pages exports too?

You can paste a Pages export into this tool and it'll still sum correctly, but the anonymization behavior Google has documented and that most published research measures is specifically about the Queries breakdown. A gap on the Pages side usually reflects the same underlying hidden queries rolling up to pages that otherwise look fully accounted for, so treat a Pages-based number here as a rough estimate rather than the primary measurement.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Parsing and calculation all happen in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you paste, upload, or type here is sent to a server, logged, or stored.
