This checks structure, not whether your URLs actually resolve. Because this tool runs entirely in your browser, it can't fetch each listed URL to confirm it returns a 200 status or matches your live site, most browsers block that for security reasons (CORS). It validates the sitemap file itself: well-formed XML, required fields, valid formats, and duplicates.

What does this tool check?

Well-formed XML: the file parses without syntax errors.
Correct root element: either <urlset> with the schema.org sitemap namespace, or <sitemapindex> for a sitemap of sitemaps.
Required <loc>: every entry needs one, and it must be an absolute URL (starting with http:// or https://), relative paths aren't valid in a sitemap.
Valid <lastmod>: should be a recognizable date, ideally YYYY-MM-DD or a full ISO 8601 timestamp.
Valid <changefreq>: must be one of always, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or never.
Valid <priority>: must be a number between 0.0 and 1.0.
Duplicate URLs: the same <loc> appearing more than once.
Size limits: Google's spec caps a single sitemap at 50,000 URLs and 50MB uncompressed, larger sites need a sitemap index referencing multiple files.
