Heading Outline

Checks

This checks structure, not writing quality. A clean H1-H2-H3 hierarchy helps both readers scanning the page and search engines understanding its structure, but heading levels are a guideline, not a strict rule Google penalizes for breaking. Use this to catch obvious mistakes (missing H1, jumping straight from H2 to H5), not as a pass/fail grade.

Structure is one piece of the puzzle

Weeklift's weekly digest tracks your real ranking and click data, so you can see which pages are actually worth cleaning up first, not just which ones have a heading problem.

What does this tool check for?

Missing H1: no top-level heading found, pages should generally have exactly one.
Multiple H1s: more than one H1 can dilute the signal of what the page is primarily about, though it's not always harmful (some templates use multiple by design).
Skipped levels: jumping more than one level deeper than the previous heading (e.g. H2 straight to H4), which can confuse both screen readers and the page's logical structure.
Empty headings: a heading tag with no visible text, usually a leftover template artifact.
